Matt Mantou (Matteo Di Pietro) is an award-winning Creative Video Producer and Motion Designer with over a decade of experience in the advertisement industry. He has crafted captivating visual content for renowned companies like Serif Europe Ltd and Sony Pictures Entertainment. His recent work includes leading innovative projects, developing augmented reality and 3D designs as, and producing compelling visual effects and production design for short films such as “Alleged” and “She Will Play On.”
As a passionate advocate for science fiction, I relish the opportunity to critique and highlight the weaknesses of today’s society through engaging and fantastical storytelling. This film embodies this approach, inviting viewers to reflect on the profound themes of control, technology, and human connection.
Inspired by my background in advertisement and short forms, I believe every scene in a short film should be treated like a ‘promo,’ with a fast-paced edit and rhythmic cuts that leave viewers wanting more. This method, much like advertising, aims to convey a powerful message succinctly while leaving gaps for the audience to fill with their own thoughts.
Even though I have extensive experience in VFX and CGI/3D, for this project, I chose to avoid heavy CGI. Instead, I embraced practical effects, props, and makeup, inspired by many 80s-90s movies. I believe in the old-school way of filmmaking, using VFX and CGI lightly to enhance the story rather than dominate it. This approach brings a tangible, authentic feel to the film, paying homage to the classic era of cinema while delivering a modern, impactful narrative.
With my first film, I sought to experiment with this approach to see how it resonates with the audience. My goal is to create a thought-provoking experience that stays with viewers long after the credits roll, encouraging them to ponder the complexities and ethical dilemmas presented in the film.
