Director Statement

As the director of Born Burn Breathe, my vision for this documentary was to challenge the deeply ingrained narratives around economic growth and progress. GDP, as the dominant measure of success, shapes policies, societal priorities, and ultimately, the world we live in—but it tells an incomplete story. It ignores the human, social, and environmental costs of this relentless pursuit of growth. For me, this film is personal. As someone deeply concerned about the well-being of future generations, I wanted to explore how we can shift the conversation from “how much we produce” to “how well we live.”

This documentary is not just about numbers and policies; it’s about people. It’s about children growing up in a world where their future is shaped by decisions made today. It’s about communities struggling with the consequences of inequality and environmental degradation. It’s about finding new ways to define success that prioritize sustainability, equity, and mental well-being.

What makes Born Burn Breathe unique is its combination of intellectual rigor and emotional storytelling. Through the insights of economists, psychologists, and sustainability experts, and the use of striking visuals and human stories, this documentary aims to not only inform but also inspire action. My hope is that viewers will leave questioning the systems that shape their lives and feeling empowered to demand change.

This film is a call to rethink what we value as a society and to create a world where progress is measured by the well-being of people and the planet, not just the growth of an economy.
