Sam Rider graduated from the Tisch NYU film school in 2001, and has since forgone sleep to produce films and videos worldwide. Sam has produced four narrative feature films, including “Graceland,” a film set and produced in Manila that premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and was released theatrically in 20 cities throughout the United States. He has produced and shot documentaries in India, Africa, Eastern Europe, Central America, and Southeast Asia. His latest documentary feature Border Crossing is about Venezuelan breakdancers who dance on the streets of Colombia to survive.
Our team of filmmakers wanted to tell the story of the migration out of Venezuela through the experience of a tight-knit group. On a scout in Colombia, we found our subjects -- a young group of hip-hop dancers in the prime of their lives. In any other country, these promising youths would have been highly successful. Coerced to leave their country, they danced on the streets of Medellin surviving on the generosity of strangers. Our filmmaking core led by myself and producer Travis Dover made a film about this young era of human migration through the experiences of one special group of friends.
