I grew up in the small city of Greenwood, South Carolina. Being from a football town, the only thing that saved me from utter loneliness and boredom was art. From an early age, my father and older cousin watched them draw for me. Eventually, I started creating my own world by drawing.
While drawing was my gift, 1990’s Disney Renaissance and any animated show, channel or block became my obsession. As I continued my animation infatuation, Genndy Tartakovsky’s “Samurai Jack”, Craig McCracken’s “Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends” and Hayao Miyazaki’s films pushed me towards pursuing my Bachelor’s degree in Animation from SCAD.
As I matured, storytelling became just as important to me as animation. I was shaped as a writer and storyteller by reading Gertrude Chandler Warner’s Boxcar Children series, Mark Twain’s Tom Sawyer, Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird and Joseph Heller’s Catch-22. This led me to pursue my Master’s degree in Writing from SCAD.
My career so far has led me to create content for big and small companies and individuals like Green Cage Security and Chyle. Since then, I’ve been published by outlets like GameSkinny and Paste Magazine.
As I have come into my own, writing and animation have become who I am. My vision is to span both comedy and drama across various audiences through traditional animation. With that in mind, I want to change animation by championing diversity through storytelling and nuanced characters. As I continue my journey, I still feel like that little boy in his room creating his own world.
