Australian Spotlight
Jessica is an experienced actor turned writer/director. Her directorial debut Everybody Else Is Taken (2017) has just finished it's festival circuit, screening at over 15 festivals worldwide including three Academy-Award accredited festivals where she won a Jury Prize (Palm Springs International ShortFest). Her second short film - funded by the NZFC, FLIP, is a feminist sci-fi about a mother and daughter held prisoner in a post-apocalyptic refugee compound, and is about to start it's festival run. She recently returned from New Zealand where she plays Cheryl West in the award-winning series Westside.
The script of Bondi Slayer made me laugh out loud as I was reading it and that specifically was what drew me to work on the project. I was super excited to make a series with a kickass female protagonist. She's both strong and struggling, likeable and kind of a brat, and audiences will relate to her because of these strengths and flaws. I love working in a genre space, as it offers us a remove to reflect on the world and our own lives with less judgment. Bondi Slayer does just that - its sharp tone and witty dialogue as well as sick fight scenes and vampire deaths all culminate in a hilarious, entertaining series that hits the mark.
