Sarah McColgan has developed a portfolio that blurs the lines between diverse genres, cultures and industries. She has produced award winning work in the worlds of motion and still photography. A graduate of NYC’s School of Visual Arts, McColgan began her career as an editorial photographer and her images have been published globally in countless magazines. As a director she has received a number of accolades from MTV VMA nominations, to UKMVA nominations, and her work has been shortlisted in a number of festivals. She is currently based in LA with her daughter and Husband.
Women are often asked to manipulate ourselves in a variety of ways to fit into traditional notions of beauty. The imagery aims to creates a safe and empowering space for women to embrace their individuality without shame, presenting images that defy traditional canons of beauty and expand the meaning of form and shape. The subjects are placed in tight graphic compositions to create a sense of restriction, subtly showcasing the perpetual struggle to overcome limits and highlighting the inherent human desire for growth and freedom. There is no wrong way to have a body.
