Boazovázzi
Around midsummer the reindeer herders of village Ávžžášjávri near the Finnish/Norweigan border collect their reindeer and mark the newborn calves that were born in the spring. Markings are a series of cuts to calves’ ears and this tradition has been men’s job before. Ellen-Maaret Juuso puts her city life to a pause and flies to the wilderness to take part in her share of this Sámi tradition.
BOAZOVÁZZI is a mini-doc that, through it's protagonist Ellen-Maarit, touches upon the importance of upholding indigenous traditions, women's roles in the future of Sámi society and the dilemma of non-aligning hopes and ambitions.
