Director Biography - Prae Vong

Hello, my name is Prae Vong. I graduated form a film school in Thailand in the end of 2019. I fell completely in love with cinema. I started to watch more films during these years in college where I found this form of art to be absolutely magical and it introduced me to the power that this medium can hold.

When I made my first film, Blue Moon, it was when I am about to graduate. I was anxious about the fact that in the next few months I would be officially done with childhood and things about to get very serious. All the fun and freedom will be tied with adulting responsibilities; more importantly all the friends will eventually drift apart no matter how hard we try to hold onto each other, our path will separate us in ways.

Likewise I experienced this anxiety of wanting to be perfect, this overwhelming fear and anxiety of wanting to be great before the limited time of life hits, I have to find out how to live the most purposeful and fulfilling life possible before it ended. The idea of purpose and legacy and death and everything on this subject is what I have been constantly thinking about and trying to figure out, but I have no grasp hold onto any of it.

I find films, especially Drama and Fantasy, give me this push and pull of ecstasy and extreme anxiety of life at the same time. The story being told can be honest, personal and intimate; it can resonate to my core, and make me feel a little less lonely in this scary world. It is the closest to how I imagine to be fully alive feels.

I fell in love with cinema, in its own way, it addresses larger ideas regarding life, death, anxiety and depression. Although it provokes all these existential concepts and angsts, it does not necessary cure and ease any of the worries, it just gives this sense of strange comfort, solace and therapeutic meditation or solace.

Therefore, my only wish with my art is it to help me accepting this sensitivity and vulnerability and to allow my skin to be transparent sometime. And it to remind me that there are other people in the world battling the same fear and overwhelm by the same thoughts. I want to be honest and strip away my ego. Rather than wanting to make an impact, I just hope I do my best and I am happy with the process regardless of the outcome.

A story about two friends having a conversation the night before graduation. It explores the ideas of PostGraduate Blues. The anxiety of being left behind and moving on with or without the people in your current stage.

By excepting that we had shared our path and our small journey even if it just for a brief moment. It does not have to be eternal because the essence of who they are will never leave you.
