Blue Dogs
The story of ‘blue dogs’ is about two watchful, loyal dogs of some supposed huge mobster, with his work in and around Mumbai. Man 1 and Man 2 are the stray dogs who lurk in the shadows, are fed or loved by no one, and eventually die an unnoticeable dog’s death. There are subtle undertones of casteism in the film which serve as reason for certain actions.
Story begins with them on an assignment, waiting for further instructions cramped up in a small room, smoking cigarettes, trying to fritter away time. Forced conversations from Man 2 lead to unnecessary misunderstandings between the two of them. Themes of paranoia and delusions are explored through the actions of Man 1 who accuses Man 2 of treachery and betrayal. Storming out of the place, Man 1 is seen incessantly running out on the streets. His lungs don’t seem to provide him with enough air, his paranoia is heightened and he is struggling with hypertension, with the beautiful alienating Mumbai in the backdrop. Overcome with fear and anxiety for his life and more so the hunger of revenge, he makes a grave decision. He takes the local train to his crime “partner’s” place, and shoots his wife and daughter. Knowing that he would not be able to live with a harmless woman and child’s blood on his hands, he shoots himself too. Man 2 returns back to his home, standing there in disbelief at the scene, he screams and cries and decides to take his own life.
