Blood
Blood follows Ida, an up and coming painter, as she is diagnosed with a rare, incurable and terminal blood disease called Porphyria. Devastated and confused, she retreats to a friend's farmhouse where she suffers ghastly symptoms like blistering, nausea, nose bleeds and hallucinations to name a few. She discovers common things, like alcohol, stress, sometimes light and even touch can bring on "attacks". Her disease manifests mysteriously. It begins to haunt her and threatens to take over her life. She is soon faced with an impossible decision, either accept her new life, or lose it.

Kat Roman is an NYC based content creator and storyteller. She has produced, directed, edited and filmed four independent feature films, various commercials (GMC, Marine Corps, Union Plus) music videos, web-series and promotional spots. She has eight years experience producing digital content for everyone from GMC to Appalachian rockers. With a healthy career in boots on the ground production, and after receiving and MFA in Producing for Film and TV from the Feirstein Graduate School of Cinema, Kat is focusing her efforts on developing and producing original and positive episodic content that informs large audiences of relatable and also inaccessible subject matters.
As a storyteller and filmmaker, I consider myself a connector. I believe that powerful and memorable stories stick in our minds because they connect us to a subject that we never thought we'd be able to see eye to eye with.
With every project I jump into I strive to present a unique experience in a common light. I focus on an experiential style of filmmaking and styling that appropriately communicates the environment of the subject at hand by putting the viewer in the subjects mind and heart.
Within the past few years, I discovered that Porphyria runs in my family and consequently, was hidden from me. I struggled to understand and evaluate my risk. And eventually carved out a comfort in the unknown, as Porphyria is difficult to diagnosis unless an attack is occurring. I’ve since been fortunate to connect with several wonderful people, each with a different manifestation of the disease, to help satisfy my curiosity and inform this film, Blood.
I strive to consistently create visuals that disarm and create trust between the viewer and the subject so that the viewer can relax, and be open to learning something.
I don’t sweat the small stuff. I welcome accidents and encourage failure. Because I have found the most authentic performances and honest realizations can be born in those moments. I actively pursue unique, bold, raw, empathy generating narrative projects. And sincerely hope that Blood is an informative, and enjoyable experience.
I have self-funded Blood and am working tirelessly with an amazing team of post professionals to finalize the film with a final sound mix, professional color grade and visual FX (the character in black cloak will look terrifying ). Thank you for your understanding!
