Blake Rising
Every year on 'the Glorious 12th' of August, the William Blake Congregation gathers at Blake's grave to celebrate his Deathday
with a poetry picnic and music.
We call our gathering 'Blake Rising' because William Blake died singing of the things he saw in Heaven.
Everyone is welcome. from 1pm at Bunhill Fields. Bring poetry and picnic to share.
Poet Simon Miles founded the WIlliam Blake Congregation in 1986 and, since his untimely death in 2006, his friends - artist Helen Elwes and poet Stephen Micalef - have continued to run it.
The Congregation is a free, creative and roots up group which celebrates William Blake's life, art and vision with poetry and music performances, art exhibitions and free annual gatherings to mark Blake's Birthday - 28th November at Tate Britain - & his Deathday - 12th August at Bunhill Fields.
