Black Crane [ナベヅル] 鍋鶴
In Japan the crane is a sacred bird, a symbol of health,
longevity and happiness. In Russia people have always
revered the crane arriving in the spring as a symbol of the
arrival of summer. Interestingly, on the southern shore of
lake Baikal cranes appear in mid-may already and fly away to Asia for the
wintering in autumn. They fly to the southern island Kyushu, Japan.
Where more than 80% of the crane population overwinters.
The black crane is listed in the International Red book of Russia,
Japan, Mongolia and China. Also in many countries the crane is a
bird symbolizing immortality and prosperity.
