Writer Statement

Bienvenidos came to me while I was playing with my little girl one Sunday morning. I read many stories about mothers separated from their children and they read like a horror stories. I had to contribute to the conversation so I wrote this short film with the hope that it might change the gravity of the situation if it were centered around an American family. I turned the tables. It's not a perfect story but it's one that I hope will challenge us and maybe create a sense of empathy for those who unjustly are going through this horrific scenario.
