Brief Introduction of Sachin Shirke ( Nilesh)
I am an aspiring filmmaker with a strong desire to narrate stories that touch people’s emotional chords. Though I pursued a short course from Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), my actual understanding of the filmmaking process and its language began much earlier as a child actor in front of the camera. After several performances as an actor in the films of renowned filmmakers like Dr. Jabbar Patel, Raaj Dutt, Sai Paranjpye and others, my experience as an assistant started with the legendary filmmaker Sai Paranajpye.
Later I also assisted Arun Khopkar for his exclusive documentaries on renowned Artist Jahangir Sabavala and Architect Charles Correa. I was also associated as an Assistant Director and Production Designer with ace Documentary film maker Nilosree Biswas for the documentaries produced by Oxyfam. I also had an opportunity to work for various fictional and non-fictional television shows produced by Siddarth Basu, Mukul Abhyanakar and others. With this varied experience behind me, I undertook my first project as an independent filmmaker, producing and directing a short film “Prayaag”. The film was based on a true incident outlined in an article by the late Priya Tendulkar which was published in a leading daily and won the Best Foreign Language Film Award (2007) at Redlight Centre Film Festival Canada. Next, I made a 5 min silent short film “Celebrations”, where the effort was to try and tell the story visually, without the use of dialogue. It was made on a shoe string budget, and was inspired by an article in newspaper narrating the changing equation between a blind boy and his exam writer. This film won me an entry into a reality show on Sony Pix. The aim of the show was to choose the most promising director from a total of 18 participants; I made it to the final shortlist of ten directors on this show. Celebrations won the Best short film Award at Maharastra Times Awards (Awards initiated by Marathi daily Maharashtra Times of Times Publications) and were also selected for various other film festivals. Law has always fascinated me, and this led me on to my next project. I made an 80 minutes debating English documentary “Audi Alteram Partem – Hear the other side” which is a thought-provoking, fact-based documentation about the judicial delay in Indian Judiciary system. This documentary too was nominated in the Best Documentary category at 8th Indian Film Festival “Bollywood & Beyond” – Stuttgart and is still being screened at various film avenues in India.
After directing a biopic documentary to be produced by Films Division through Information and Broadcasting Ministry of India.
In the recent times with Chandrasheela Arts LLP (me and Pankaj) have directed a kids play for DD Sahaydari (Government of India official channel) and the same was also performed at NCPA Theatre – Mumbai. We also directed various poems for kids which are a part of the current academic syllabus.
We both also produced and Directed a Hindi short film of 50 min Bhovra.
