Beyond the Labels

Our music video is called “Beyond the labels” and tells stories of students from Soka University who suffered or are suffering from discrimination regarding their social identity, their skin colour, their gender, their religion, their sexual orientation and the country they are from. With this title, we wanted to show that people are more than the labels that people or society put on them. Through the video clip, we want to demonstrate the importance of getting to know the people around us, listening to them, understanding their stories, motivations, difficulties, dreams, fears. All people have a history of struggles and challenges, but they also have a unique and innate beauty. For this reason, we want to go beyond showing the difficulties that each one faces: we also want to show the value that each human being has, showing that it is not our suffering that defines us, but our inner value, and showing that only dialogue and only by getting to know each other, we can better understand the people around us, and create empathy and understanding.
