Beyond Normal chronicles the journey of professional surfer Becca Speak as she fights her way back to the water after a traumatic brain injury (TBI). The film is an intimate portrait of self-discovery and a vulnerable look into the gravity of the injury.

Director Biography - Anna Wilder Burns, Jordyn Romero

ANNA WILDER BURNS: Anna is an award-winning Cinematographer, Director, and Photographer focused on impactful stories of athletes, adventurers, and activists. With a background in Journalism and as a 2-sport D1 athlete, she combines her passion for the outdoors and athletics to tell stories spanning adventure, conservation, and sports that inspire change. Anna’s worked with brands including Nike, The North Face, and Red Bull, created festival-winning films, and has work featured in The New York Times, Outside Magazine, and The Player’s Tribune. Her most recent film To Be Frank was distributed with OutsideTV and was selected to screen at two of the most prestigious outdoor film festivals in the US, MountainFilm and 5Point.

JORDYN ROMERO: Jordyn is an award-winning filmmaker challenging and changing the norm to make films that matter. She’s committed to crafting narratives that inspire and foster a sense of belonging for every viewer. With an unwavering belief in the transformative power of storytelling, Jordyn amplifies voices that need to be heard and creates a cinematic tapestry that resonates with worldwide audiences. In her acclaimed film, We Are Like Waves, Jordyn tells the story of one of the first female surfers in Sri Lanka.
