Best Man
Johannes and Simone are sitting in a car, waiting for an elaborate event which Johannes has planned out in detail for his friend, Anders, in order for him to make a perfect proposal. But when the show is just about to go on, Johannes uses his last opportunity to confess his long-lasting secret love for Simone. Once the truth of their friendship is revealed to Simone, she is suddenly thrown into a dilemma she had not seen coming, on this otherwise joyous occasion.

After a year abroad in the USA, it became apparent to Ludvig that he would spend the rest of his life making movies. Many of his early years, he spent on learning and understanding the technical part of the media. Throughout most of his career, he has spent his time on working as a photographer and editor of shorts, music videos and ads. In the most recent years, however, Ludvig has been more focused on directing. Since 2017, he has been working full-time at a number of production companies until he in 2019 started his own. Currently, Ludvig is studying at the European Film College in Ebeltoft, Denmark.
Best Man is a film made up of events from real life. The story revolves around the dilemma and the consequences that arise, when feelings aren’t expressed in time. To declare your love to someone else is hard, especially when you’re introverted by nature. It takes time. And if you wait too long, you risk missing your chance.
If you lose your chance, you usually get sad - sometimes mad. And the intention with the movie was indeed to explore how that dilemma would be handled - if you give up and feel bad about yourself, or if you stand up, accept the reality and try to make the best of the situation, for example by spending your energy on being a good friend.
Meanwhile, the film also shows that you should not suppress your feelings. It’s important to remember that you have the right to say what you have on your heart, even if it doesn’t coincide with circumstances. Because if you don’t, it will make you absolutely frantic. It has to be done in the right way, where you behave properly and respect reality.
For me, this is classic storytelling at its best. It’s very contemporary to make arthouse- and avant-garde films with complex plots and themes. But my opinion is that a film should be easy to understand, and bring out emotion in the audience - even if it at times may seem cliché. It’s always my goal to catch my audience by the heart.
