CREATOR'S STATEMENT - Kelly Bohart
Best Friends For Death is incredibly meaningful to me because it’s my first short film created entirely from my own vision. As a fan of the horror genre and true crime, it felt natural to start there when writing. While comedy is where I feel most grounded, I wanted to challenge myself by blending it with suspense and drama, creating a story that feels both darkly funny and genuinely thrilling.
This project allowed me to explore characters who are flawed, relatable, and fiercely loyal. I feel a personal connection to Harper and Scarlet because they each represent different parts of me, and I hope viewers can relate to them as well. Their bond is tested in unpredictable ways, reflecting the chaotic, messy nature of real friendships. Writing and producing this film from start to finish has been both challenging and rewarding, and the experience has inspired me to continue creating stories that truly represent my voice as a storyteller.
When initially looking for a director, I reached out to Jason because I had worked with him before and admired his ability to produce high-quality work efficiently with a small team, which was exactly what was necessary to bring this project to life. Our aligned vision and mutual appreciation for Barbarian reassured me he was the perfect choice for Best Friends For Death. The film has become what it is today thanks to the creative eyes of both Jason and JJ, whose expertise I respect immensely.
I can’t wait to share Best Friends For Death with audiences and see how it resonates with viewers from all walks of life
