Beneath the Firefly Veil
The film delivers a story that bravely addresses the disturbing past and the burden of the present. A competently told tale of trauma, redemption, and revenge sprinkled with mythical elements that culminate in a mysterious turn of events.

Jac Clarito is a nabunturanon filmmaker from Mindanao. Her first documentary film, Asay (Where to?), was selected under the open category in the 5th Nabunturan Independent Film Exhibition (NABIFILMEX) in 2016. It won the Sulyap Kultura Award given by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), one of the festival’s top prizes held in Davao de Oro. The film was featured in the Philippine Daily Inquirer by Jay Rosas.
Jac continued making films after her first project at the age of 15. She directed and wrote her second film, Meet-Up, which won several awards from various film festivals across the Philippines. Her previous narrative film, Ising, also won Best Davao de Oro Film and was selected and nominated internationally for Best Short Film at the Student World Impact Film Festival. She also started her acting career at the age of eighteen and won Best Actress in four different regional film festivals. At nineteen, she participated as an actress in the film Cangrejos (Crab), directed by Zurich Chan - this film was an entry in the Southeast Asia Fiction Film Lab and was also featured in The Manila Times. Recently, her film Beneath the Firefly Veil, in which she played the lead role, won Best Short Film, Best Director, and Best Cinematography at the 7th Sine Kabataan Film Lab & Festival hosted by the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) held in Metro Manila last September 2024 and at the recently concluded 22nd Mindanao Film Festival the film bagged an award of Best Film, Best Director, and Best Actress.
The film aims to highlight the pressing issues faced by local communities in the Philippines, especially in remote areas, particularly the coercion of farmers to relinquish their land for development projects. These projects, often driven by individuals with bad or questionable intentions, exclude and marginalize the very people who have cultivated the land for generations. This film underscores the importance of sustainable development and serves as a vital reminder that true progress should include and benefit the entire community.
