Benjamin Franklin Crim was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Edward James Crim Sr. and Jayne Hutchinson. When he was nine years old his family moved to Nashville, TN so his father could pursue a career in the music industry as a drummer. Ben received a bachelor's degree in history from Middle Tennessee State University where he made his first historical documentary Free From Slavery But Not From The South. After graduating he went on to work at Historic Travellers Rest House Museum where he won two awards from the Tennessee Association of Museums. Around this time he began writing, producing, and directing short films. For the Nashville 48 Hour Film Festival 2020 he directed and edited Hammer Man!, which won Audience Favorite (Group B). In 2022, he was hired by the Tennessee State Library and Archives to make educational videos about Tennessee State Parks for middle school students.
