Bellaca
The action takes place in the 1700s on the Le
Morne mountain, which became a haven for runaway slaves. The
"Republic of Maroon" has become a real symbol of the struggle against the slave trade. Bellaca is one of the runaway slaves who led this movement. A proclamation of the Colonial Assembly even proposed to offer freedom to any slave who would bring information or capture him.

Director, writer, producer Rasesh Ramprosand, born Brisee Verdiere, Mauritius, May 26th, 1991, began his career in film as a D.O.P and founded his own production company Lume Production Company Ltd in the late 2016. He is one of a small group of Mauritian directors who has revolutionized filmmaking in Mauritius. Participating in almost all short film competitions organized in Mauritius, Rasesh has been nominated in many films and won 12 awards in different categories. In 2019, he received a national award for Cinema alongside fellow director Vijendra Ramdhun for short movie entitled “Leritaz nou ancet”.
In 2020, he produced his first feature docu-fiction Chagos Nou Leritaz which is about the eviction of Chagossian people to build a military base in the Indian Ocean.
In 2021, he set his goal higher to produce and direct feature film, Bellaca. The movie has premiered in Mauritius on 28th October 2022 and has received numerous positive reviews in the local press.
