Starting as a young assistant for German film mentor Rosa von Praunheim, Luc Vincent Hinrichsen directed his short film debut ROT AUF BETON in 2019. He was invited to film festivals and nominated for the German Up-And-Coming Film Award. He currently lives in Berlin and works on his feature debut BEING AND EXILE.
BEING AND EXILE is a very personal, socio-critical feature-length thriller drama blending darkly comedic dialogue, suspenseful scenes and philosophical ideas. Ostensibly, the movie is about an artist duos efforts to address the shortcomings of society through extremely provocative performances. However, the true subject of the story is the friendship of the two main characters and their desire for finding a home in an alienated world. Every character is confronted with losing their home in one way or another, which results in these characters taking different actions to fight this threat. Among other things, the script is inspired by the intimate photography of Nan Goldin, the neo-noir aesthetic of Wim Wenders and the Safdie Brothers, 80s New Wave and 90s trance music and real-life activist groups such as the Church of Euthanasia.
