Behind the Cartoons
Behind the Cartoons is an animated mockumentary about a group of voice actors who think they’re a lot more famous than they really are. When the director of the film, Jack, is told that he’s not famous, he searches for the meaning of animated stardom.

Jack Parnell is an animator, director, writer, and comedian who is well known for his witty conversational humour. Along with his vast library of shorts, Jack also directs various animated web shows like Weee, AwesomeMan, Magical Adventure, and Dumb Questions.
Behind the Cartoons was my final student film before officially graduating from Western this summer. The film offers a critical look at the idea of animated stardom. Actors often have a clear star image while with voice actors things get a bit more complicated. Sometimes the character is famous while the actor is relatively unknown, other times voice actors appear in hundreds of projects and are rarely recognized. Each character in Behind the Cartoons represents a different form of animated stardom so I can comedically explore all of them.
