Beginning 1-7 +1 (screen version)
A film-work that uses the concept of creation and order (Genesis 1) to understand our place in the natural world and contrasts that with change and its consequences that we have bought about.
Like all my film-works it is without dialogue and the rhythm of the film is here controlled by the natural world. Consequently there are distinct differences in the number of images used in each section. The opening section is 4 minutes but with 5 images while a later section (Day 7) is controlled by the passage of a cloud that hides and then reveals a mountainous terrain before hiding it again which although it is still 4 minutes is only 1 image. Similarly the sound is that which is found at the site of filming and then developed during post production, except that of the sound of a wind organ that comes from the site for the Projected version of this film-work (it has a different ending to the screen version) and this is only used to complement the wind at filming that derived its warmth from the light which then dispersed the cloud.
The film-work is part of an intervention into a medieval space that has traditionally addressed this subject and accompanies a version that is projected onto a relatively loosely held cloth.
