Director Statement

"Becoming Girl" is a film about tomboy girl named Dara who experienced her first menstruation when playing football with her friends, Anto and Budi. Narrated through the perspective of boys. A naive portrait of the attitude of boys facing unexpected situations and trying to solve problem with their own way.

Through "Becoming Girl" I tried to give a new perspective through cinema by discussing taboo matters in Indonesia which are often covered up from public spaces, especially for teenagers who should get an education about hygiene and sex. Grounded in a small urban area that slowly without realizing there is massive development.
