Becoming Diana

“BECOMING DIANA” is a short film written by Lylah Persad which follows her staged play of "DIANA" (2018)- a play based on somene driven to commit murder.

Becoming Diana (2019), will tell Diana's perspective on what lead her to that point of desperation and frustration, as she sits and speaks with a psychiatrist. Diana will tell us what she felt as a child, show the relationships she had with her family and others she encountered, on her way to living her dreams.
Becoming Diana will highlight things which stood out most to Diana, and question the audience on what they see when they look at someone they label as "mad".
Becoming Diana will show WHY Diana did what she did.

Both "Diana- stage" and "Becoming Diana- short film" are pieces written specifically to open the dialogue about Mental Health awareness in a safe space and to encourage others to be okay with seeking professional help, as well as the importance of mental wellness.

Director Statement

When Lylah (Persad) sent me the script for Diana the stage play, I told her it would make a great film. She agreed but wanted to take it to stage first. The reception was great for a stage audience, but as a film, I knew how much more effective it could be. We wanted to highlight the character’s underlying mental disorder which can only be captured on screen.

"Becoming Diana" gives a closer look into the inner workings of Diana Miller’s mind and her psychosis.
I am indeed appreciative to Lylah for allowing me the opportunity to bring this part of Diana to the audience, and the message of mental health to a wider audience through the medium of film.

We have every intention of "capturing" DIANA, the play, and transforming it into a full length feature film, in the near future.
