"Beautiesandbeast"

'Beautiesandbeast' is a performance-based movie made with the participation of the inhabitants and military people from the war-conflict zone in the Eastern Ukraine. This is a metamodern attempt of understanding the realities in which we are in our country today. The movie is a reflection on the war that happens in space which inhabitants become the instruments of complicated expression created by the author in the language of the plastic method. Focusing on the lives of women workers and trades whose lives flow on the huge distance from political and arts discussion, the author is trying to express outrage of the physical material conditionality together with the magic of women's being in the gray zone. With the means of parallel cut the author compares life of the women of the grey zone with the soldier’s and offices’ being on the front line.

• Film-directors and Script- writers Higher Courses(Moscow) Olena Klochko, an artist and a film- director,

had begun her art-activities in the late 90-s-early 2000-s at St. Petersburg art scene as a fashion-designer, performer and painter, working mainly with the textile, with the art projects "Spring on the runway"(collection of dresses- pictures), "Eva Braun"(collection of fashion costumes+ performance), "Naked Lunch"(textile pictures exhibition and performance, “Paleolithic” (collection of costumes-sculptures+ performance), which arouse much interest in the art-circles and Media and were highly popular among the public. Her performance “Eva Braun” was titled “cult” due both to the innovative approach towards the totalitarianism’s topic interpretation and bright fashion event. The paintings of that period are in the private collections and in the museums of
St-Petersburg, Moscow, Kiyiv, Kursk, Madrid, New York, Helsinki, etc… Found deep interest in directing performances, Olena entered the Higher Film Courses in Moscow in 2003 and started to work in film industry, trying many aspects of film creation- from film-director, costume-designer, script-writer to producer. In her cinema practice Olena worked with influencial film-directors eg. Eugeny Juffit, Sharunas Bartas, Alexander Sokurov, Alexander Bashirov. Her filmography includes several shorts, 2 documentaries and one feature film “Silicone”(93’). Under influence of the events of 2014 (Russian- Ukrainian war conflict in her native region) Olena came back to Ukraine. Here she made an art-project “Beautiesandbeast”(2017-2018), which consists of the series of paintings and performance-based movie(44’), which she filmed in her native town Bakhmut with the market-sellers and also on the front-line with soldiers of Ukrainian Army. Now she works and continues making arts and participating in social- cultural process of Ukraine, making exhibitions in Kiyiv and other places of her country and abroad.

This movie I made as an expression of my attitude to the events in my country of the recent time. The mixture of feelings- embarisment, confusion, grief and delight simulteniously are present inside of me when I think of my Native place. At the same time the conclusion to which I came during editing of this movie was a kind of discover for me...
