Director Statement

How do people feel after being sexually assaulted and how can their experience change their personality or behavior? I was inspired by my own and personal experiences from my environment to make this film. “Beats per Minute” tells the story of Zoe and shows how a self-confident drummer becomes a labile personality after experiencing sexual assault. We accompany Zoe to the first, most important step that victims have to take, which is to confide in someone and talk about what they have experienced. Many emotional moments during the filming showed me how important it was for the crew and actors to be involved in this film and to support this important topic. I am very grateful for that. I hope that my film can encourage those affected to confide in someone. The moment you start talking about it, it becomes easier.
