Director Statement

"Beard" is one of three fiction shorts I have directed and ultimately the one I hold closest. I began writing this script almost as an apology to the hearts I broke in high school. Whether I was fully aware of my sexuality at the time or not, those girls didn’t deserve the way I treated them. It’s so difficult where to throw the blame, but I can’t help feeling responsible for being weak. I was hiding behind a "girlfriend" just because I was afraid of what others may think of me; and that's what "Beard" is all about. Of the three hearts I broke, one turned out to be one of my best friends, and I dedicate this film to her.
