Student Project:Yes - Savannah College of Art and Design
Yihui is originally from Guangdong, China. She’s a senior student in Savannah College of Art and Design(SCAD). She’s focus on narrative filmmaking in some main positions like director or editors. She had attended many film crews and created some wonderful works:“The Monster”, “On the Bus”, “Metronome”, etc.
A few years ago, I had a wonderful dream about the ocean, affection, and secrets. and that’s how I got inspired. I clearly remember the moment Jenna sits on the sand and asks me: “Did you know the sea has emotions?” She was looking back at me, and I can see the waves crashing on the beach. It was the most beautiful moment I had ever seen in my life. After I woke up from the dream, I told myself not to forget it, so I wrote it down and wished one day I could make it come true. As a thesis film, this is the first film I was present throughout the whole production process. I assisted in production design, held auditions, sat in with the editor, and listened to the composer creating fantastic music. The entire process means a lot to me, not only the project but also the process. From the creative process, I had a lot of different visions for the story. It started with the short novel, then I turned it into a script and experienced many edits and changes. When I saw it was getting completed, I began to see this film as one of my children. I received a lot of advice from different professors. I learned how to work with people when we have different opinions. And I also made a lot of friends in this process. They all touched me a lot. Every time I watch my film, I feel like it is a milestone in my life. It’s a memory of how I started. It’s not the best one, but it’s the first one. I made my dream come true. Not only the beach dream, but also my film dream.
