Director Statement

As a filmmaker, I am driven by the belief that stories shape our understanding of the world and ourselves. When young African American kids look at the screen, they should see not just characters but reflections of their own potential and creativity. With this project, I wanted to create an opportunity for these young talents to experience the magic of filmmaking from both sides of the camera.

In this film, we have not only showcased the rich narratives and diverse experiences of African American communities, but we have also involved young individuals in the entire filmmaking process. It was important to me that these kids see people who look like them working in every role, from directors and producers to writers and cinematographers. By surrounding them with a team that mirrors their own identities, I aimed to inspire and empower them to envision themselves as future filmmakers, storytellers, and artists.

This project is more than just a film; it is a stepping stone for the next generation of creators. I wanted to demystify the filmmaking process and make it accessible, showing these young minds that they, too, can create meaningful and impactful work. My hope is that through this experience, they will gain not only practical skills but also the confidence to tell their own stories and see the power in their own voices.

Every frame of this film is a testament to the talent and potential of these young individuals. I am grateful for the opportunity to guide them and witness their growth. Together, we have created a piece of art that reflects not only our collective experience but also our shared dreams and aspirations. This is a celebration of their journey, their stories, and their futures.
