Originally from the dry suburbs of Texas, Desmond Levi Jackson is a bisexual filmmaker currently creating African-centered social thriller projects in Los Angeles, California. Desmond is heavily invested in telling original action and horror stories injected with Black characters overcoming fear, agony, and mental strife. His horror film “Wolves” was lauded Best Low Budget Short at the Long Island Scared for Your LIIFE Film Festival, and his action short “Beaten But Not Broken” was an award winner at the Black Truth Film Festival. Most recently, Desmond was selected as one of 10 emerging filmmakers in the 2022 Deutsche Bank Frieze LA Film Fellowship and was a 2022 Curious Elixir Finalist. Prior to this year, he was a fellow in the 2021 Facebook Seen fellowship, the 2021 Young Entertainment Professional Fellowship, and the 2019 Academy Gold Fellowship, the same year his Black superhero film Funk Force debuted on Amazon Prime. After pivoting from the pandemic, in 2022 Desmond finally received his MFA in Film Directing from Chapman University and is currently in preproduction of his first horror anthology feature film.
Influenced heavily by the filmmakers Jordan Peele, Terrance Nance, and the aesthetic of Japanese action anime, Desmond boasts a dynamic cinematic style that he brings to his action and horror projects. With his films, Desmond hopes to uplift African people and inspire them to be critical of systemic institutions and of the nuances of African people, in order to bring about unity within the African Diaspora.
