Experiencing Interruptions?

Barley & Lee :Compendium

My film is a small compendium of a web show, I created on November 07, 2021. This includes the 2nd, 3rd and the latest episode. The process on creating these started with me wanting to create something with original idea’s. Nowadays its not entirely easy, this series involves two figurines that interact with each other as if they were people. Using text -to-speech engines. I used my camcorder and a tripod stand on the first two episodes featured. On the last on however, I had to get down to the level of these figurines (I had to be on the ground). I was also referencing many other media during the episodes and using camera tricks I know from different media I watched. Like Back to the Future II, I used artificial light on a character, so only his shadow was seen.
On the end credits of the first episode featured here I ended it with the camera panning on a single object that was important during the episode. That I learned from Chespirito, who did this during his time directing. The 2nd episode featured I tried doing something bold- I invested in this, I grew a little more attached to these “characters” they started as collector figure items. I used paint brushes to show that “Barley” was painting on a canvas for his size. On the latest episode I used what I had, the “time travel box” and I started using my voice, since I didn’t entirely like using one of them.
I did a lot of improvising and tried to use symbolism during the latest one, “where a broken heart” symbolizes what the character feels without talking. The main protagonist “Barley” is depicted as someone who complains too much and can be an attention seeker or even a pessimist. On the last episode I had him show happiness during the end “2022 what a year it will be.” In terms of reflecting I had Barley stare into space, just thinking about everything that’s happened then I ended the episode with a calm song that was choreographed, to end when the lyrics started. Most if not all songs, have been credited during the filming of these episodes.
At the start of the episode itself, Barley and Lee reflect on their latest episode (not shown) and talk what they could’ve done better, and they start complaining on how to improve until they reach a very dumb compromise. They also talk about copyrighted songs,(because there are many). How they could try to compose their own songs. Finally, introduce “ what we even do here now.”

Director Biography - Emmanuel Fabian

A very long time ago, I wanted to make a video(a video with voice acting, and trying to remake the same feelings), and so I did, at the time I was about 7 years old. It wasn't so good, but later on I've tried to make more videos and I've always used camera tricks. I've had ideas for anmated series for a very long time and then one day I decided to make a small video that started as a review for a video game, but while filming then I decided to completely throw away the script and go on that idea. That's how I started on "Barley & Lee". I've been wanting to make a series for a long time. In the end I would like to create an animated series. There's more, but what really inspired me was 3 different people, Chespirito, a Mexican icon, but was also a fascinating director and made 2 amazing tv shows, Edd Gould he created a web show called "Eddsworld." An Indie film maker on youtube whose name I don't know, but he was called "LigerKG" he made machinima but always had a intro "I'm presenting", then a the video would proceed then the title of the video would appear as the video runs. He treated these 3-6 minute videos like ACTUAL 2 hour long films. I thought that was amazing.
