Bambby Cheuk is a Singaporean filmmaker working on strengthening Southeast Asian documentary production and industry.
As the lead documentary producer in production company Pōtocol, she focuses on international co-production of director-driven Asian films. She also creates growth opportunities for Asian or Asia-based artists through Cinemovement, a non-profit international development platform which commissions interdisciplinary documentary work and organises labs, residencies and research work.
Her feature film works have been screened internationally. She was on the producing team from Pōtocol for Inside the Yellow Cocoon Shell (Cannes Director’s Fortnight Caméra d’Or winner, Toronto IFF) and Last Shadow at First Light (San Sebastian FF, FF Hamburg). In development, her feature documentaries have been presented in Sheffield DocFest MeetMarket, Docs by the Sea and Berlinale European Film Market.
Her shorts have been screened in Singapore IFF, Seoul International Women’s FF, Edinburgh Docufest and DokuBaku IDFF, acquired by broadcasters like Channel NewsAsia and used as educational resources for universities and organisations as part of impact campaigns.
She believes in making films useful to the communities that the films are about. While final films can be a tool for change, she wants to enable change even during the production process itself.
She is an alumni of Berlinale Doc Toolbox Programme, EURODOC24, Rotterdam Lab, Full Circle Lab Philippines, Docs by the Sea Creative Producing Lab and SGIFF’s Asian Producers’ Network 2023.
In her free time, she likes to forage, grow and cook with mushrooms.
