Balkan Can Kino is excited to announce its open call for submissions for the 7th BCK Film Symposium. Filmmakers from around the world are invited to submit their works for consideration in the symposium, which will take place in October 2024 in Athens, with free entrance.

This year's theme is the CLIMATE CRISIS and through a series of screenings, artistic installations, workshops and parallel events that aim to educate and inform participants, the Symposium will focus on the accessibility of green practices, by cultural organisations and individuals -particularly when individuals are financially strained - the responsibility of large corporations and governments. While individual actions such as reducing plastic use, recycling, and energy efficiency measures are important, they alone are unlikely to be sufficient to address the magnitude of the climate crisis. Structural changes are needed, including regulations on corporate emissions, investment in renewable energy infrastructure, and sustainable resource management policies. By bringing together experts, organizations, and artists, the symposium can foster dialogue and awareness around the intersection of environmental sustainability, social justice, and cultural expression.

We are thrilled to open our doors to filmmakers from all over the world and our mission is to showcase exceptional works that explore the human experience, challenge and inspire us to imagine new possibilities. We look forward to seeing the films that will be submitted this year. The symposium is open to all genres that fit under the theme CLIMATE CRISIS, - including narrative , documentary, experimental cinema, video art and animation.

Submissions can be made exclusively through FilmFreeway. The final deadline is on June 28th. BCK will announce the official selection in September, and selected filmmakers will be notified via email.
