Baikunth
Baikunth: n. Heaven, A place where god Vishnu resides.
This is a story about prevalent caste problem, economical inequality & degraded family values among villages in India.
Gheesu and Madhav are landless agricultural labourers who act as free agents and refuse to work if they are not in the mood or if the terms are not agreeable. They cannot be forced to work by the upper castes as used to be the case earlier. However, a life of suffering and want has completely dehumanised them.
Madhav’s wife Budhiya is about to die during childbirth. However, neither of them is concerned about saving her. They even question the custom of wrapping the dead body of a woman, who never got a new sari in her life, in a new shroud. They raise money for her funeral and spend it on drinking liquor and eating tasty food to their hearts’ content. Will Budhiya be able to get Baikunth after death? Which she’d hardly get when she was alive.
The story's adaptation is to portray the condition of the Dalits of 2019 and their socio economic even after 70+ years of independence alongwith the degraded human and family values.
