Director Biography - Cole Kelley

Cole Kelley is a filmmaker, writer and die-hard Atlanta Braves fan from Pensacola, Florida. Growing up, Cole always had a love for entertaining, rather that meant making his friends laugh at the lunch table or reenacting the entire Raiders of The Lost Ark opening in his back yard. Cole spent his teenage years playing sports, boring his friends with movie talk and occasionally making short videos of whatever he could. It was in High School where he realized the “job” he wanted to pursue, had been right infront of him on the TV his whole life. He credits his near 10 years of editing and videography experience as a major influence on his creative process. Today, Cole is one of 8 directors pursuing a MFA in film production from Florida State Universities College of Motion Picture Arts.

Director Statement

Getting to make my 2nd film at FSUFILM was not only an immense challenge and learning experience but, above all, an absolute blast, and none of it would have been possible if it weren't for my extremely talented cast, crew, and friends. Making movies is hard, but having some of your best friends by your side makes it a little bit easier. When I sought to make “BAD TAT,” it originally had a much darker and tense tone that reveled in the high stakes of this situation, but as I got deeper into the pre-production phase and began to think about what I specifically felt like I would want to see as an audience member, I naturally began leaning into a more comedic tone that let the characters shine in as short of time as possible, while still trying to achieve the sense of high stakes and pressure that they were in. Ultimately, I am immensely proud of what we were able to accomplish, and thank you so much for watching. I hope you enjoy :)
