Back Home
‘Back Home’ is a Nouvelle Vague coming of age story of a teenage fundraiser in his course to tackle real life social cases aside from soliciting donations. Based on real events, the story brings into the spotlight three major social themes – domestic violence, parental relationships, and social charity work.
Recent statistics in the UK show that an estimated of 140,000 children live in homes where there is 'significant and imminent risk of serious harm or death'. Over twenty charities around UK are working to prevent or reduce the short-term and long-term damage suffered by hundreds of thousands of children that are repeatedly exposed to a range of domestic abuses.
Have a walk throughout Brixton on a random working day and you might find yourself right at the core of the story. ‘Back Home’ is inspired by real events and real people that do come face to face with similar situations so placing the action in a London neighbourhood would, without doubt, give the right feel to the story.
In an unpredictable attempt to tackle the consequences and shortcomings that family violence leaves behind, ‘Back Home’ tells the story of Jay, an unlikely typical teenager in the course of making amends to his self-development. Jay is a young charity worker who practices door-to-door fundraising for ‘Raised at Home’ charity. One day during his fundraising work, he witnesses a direct cases of domestic abuse. A glimpse of real life situations, where the cliché traits of characters fade away as no one falls into the hero/anti-hero categories.

A story shouldn't work towards placing its characters into certain categories as that would only mean limiting them. There are always different sides to the same story and the characters’ motivations are dictated by a blend of events that summed up their lives to that point.
