Jason “J” Gray is a Baltimore based filmmaker and graduate student in the Film and Media program at The Johns Hopkins University. His background is in comedy as a writer and director for feature length and short form digital content (BREATH, Bulk Mints, MegaMites series) but he’s currently directing and co-producing documentary films for The Peabody Conservatory and Johns Hopkins University that focus on the Queer Baltimore Ballroom community and the dramatic series Shameless Women. He also directed a series of films entitled Student Stories for JHU which is featured on the Hopkins Film and Media graduate program website.
J received a bachelor’s degree in Film and Video with a minor in Studio Recording from The University of Maryland, Baltimore County. He has a sound mixer credit on the feature film “Detention” by Director Darryl Wharton (Writer for Homicide: Life on the Streets) a Cinematographer credit on “Baltimore Street” by Director Gregg Mason (casting for Avalon, Clara’s Heart & Cry Baby) and 5 musical score credits for “Evasion” By Yungbin Li, “Heel on Red” Arizona Underground Film Festival Winner by Charles Cohen and Donna Sherman, “Riding Wild” Montana Film Festival Winner by Director Charles Cohen, “Generation Zero” by Citizens United, “Against All Odds” for Rocky Patel Cigars and “In Modern Time” Directed by Robert M. Brewster (Voices of the Sierra Tarahumara, Praxis).
Film to me is a way of life. It's the way I see the world, I couldn't see myself doing anything else except making music.
