Director Biography - RATHINDRAN PRASAD R

As a young kid bitten by the film bug , Rathindran ,couldn’t contain himself to go through the conventional schooling system. His thoughts circled about films and their making. At the age of 17,
he made a life-altering decision of dropping out of school and moving to the city of Chennai to start his career in movies. After working in an multimedia company as a creative head , he shifted to an advertising agency and for the next 4 years ,he worked on close to 300 advertising films. This trial by fire where he had to constantly work on short cycles of conception, planning and execution improved his understanding of the Filmmaking process and strengthened his technical acumen.

One of the Directors who he worked with in the advertising agency planned to make an independent feature film called “Nilai kannaadi – translating to “Stationary Mirror”. He asked Rathindran to work with him to shoot this film in the style of Guerilla filmmaking. They toiled over the budgeting, scheduling and shooting logistics to deliver a good story on a constrained budget. They ended up executing the film and finishing the shoot just in 7 days. This film gave him valuable experience in effective preproduction which can ensure one to deliver a quality film regardless of the budget.

He went on to work as the first assistant director of a movie named “ Kalavani” directed by his long-time friend , he oversaw the creative process for this film. This project turned out to be one of
the popular hits in that year in India, resulting in his friend signing him on to his next film with the additional responsibility of Creative producer. This increase in the responsibility presented him with
larger challenges of coordination which he took head-on ,which also made him see the other side of the coin and learn what it is to be in the Producer's shoes . This film “Vaagai Sooda Va” went on to
receive critical acclaim and many awards.

He then Directed “Trail of Blood “ a British short feature for Rose milk Pvt Ltd. After this he went out to make a short film in the name of Swayer Corporation that got many International awards. This gave him the opportunity to meet great creative minds that gave him a new perspective to Cinema and made him want to create quality content that keeps setting a high bench mark in terms of both creativity and technicality . Following this he also directed a famous protest music video called “Kodaikanal won’t’ against Uniliver corporation which listed as one of the
top 10 viral videos cross the world. The video was later promoted by both Hollywood and Bollywood celebrities like Niki Minaj, Ashton Kutcher, Mark Ruffalo, Shekar Kapur & Nandita Das.

Rathindran wrote and directed his first feature Tamil film “Idhu Vedhaalam sollum kathai “which was produced by a Turkish producer Basak Gaziler Prasad in association with Bollywood actor/producer Abhay Deol who also played a key character in the film. The crew of this film as entirely international. production is done in Bangkok and the music is scored by Ghibran.
After “Idhu Vedhalam Sollum Kadhai “ , he went on to write and direct his second feature “Boomika” for Stone Bench Films ,which awaits its release .
