Brazilian filmmaker born in Porto Alegre, a city located in the extreme south of Brazil. Rogério Rodrigues has a degree in Social Communication and has specialized courses in Cinema, namely: “Advanced Audiovisual Production Course” and “Cinematic Editing” (ESPM); “Cinematic Direction” and “Documentary” (São Paulo International Film Academy); “Executive Production” and “Leadership Development for the Audiovisual Market” (TECNA / PUC-RS). Since 2012 he has been a partner at Atama Filmes, the production company he helped create, where he works as a director, screenwriter and executive producer. He is one of the creators of the children's series “Universo Z”, of which he directed three seasons (2014, 2016 and 2018) totaling 156 episodes aired in 43 Latin American territories. He has produced films, series and is currently involved in directing his first feature film, “Beyond Ourselves”.
The main motivation for doing “Beyond Ourselves” was to tell a story related to the culture of my region, in southern Brazil, that could awaken reflections about who we are and what is beyond our vision of the world. The axis of this story is centered on two main characters and on the affective relationship between them: Uncle and nephew, two rural men who diverge in their way of being and living amid a rude, prejudiced and conservative daily life. The relationship with the land allows for an emotional resonance to be created in different audiences and there is nothing better than a road movie to transpose regionalism. In this journey, we follow the deconstruction of a young pawn, turron, created to be a provider, however, repressed and alien to his own sensibility, who, when forced to leave his geographical environment, is subjected to the possible conflicts that a long journey can cause. Their perception of the world undergoes a re-signification of values based on their own observations and discoveries. “Beyond ourselves” is a film about transformation, with the intention of breaking the barriers of fear, prejudice or rejection that we human beings tend to have in relation to the unknown and the different.
