Director Biography - Colm Donston, Sebastian Martinez

SEBASTIAN MARTINEZ:

Sebastian Martinez got his start in the entertainment industry as a child reporter for the YouTube channel, iKidsnowdotcom. There, he and his brother would interview many young celebrities in entertaining short segments. Some past guests include Selena Gomez, The Jonas Brothers, and Ariana Grande (the latter interview having recently resurfaced on Tiktok, and amassing over millions of views). It was this experience that led to him signing with an agency and becoming a working actor. Ever since then, he’s garnered many different roles and guest star appearances on shows such as The Last O.G, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and Blue Bloods. Other projects include commercials for clients such as Canon, Jell-O, and Mastercard!

Through this experience, Sebastian discovered his love for the opposite side of the camera as well. He now studies Film & TV Production in NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, focusing on writing/directing for episodic television. Currently, Sebastian runs one of NYU’s premier sketch groups, Comic Sans, and is a member of one of NYU’s premier improv groups, Home Improv-ment. In addition to producing a variety of intermediate and advanced student films, he’s also amassed internships at development companies such as Dive (What We Do In The Shadows, Reservoir Dogs) and Jax Media (Russian Doll, Emily In Paris, Desus & Mero). In the future, the dream is to continue in the comedy realm in a variety of roles and eventually, creating his own original comedy series!

COLM DONSTON:

Colmcille Donston is a director, writer, and actor originally from Hoboken, NJ. He began his artistic career as an actor training in all different forms of the theatrical arts, but often wound up at his local movie theater on the weekends. The combination of his love for acting and admiration of movies began his pursuit to become a director. This led him to Emerson College in Boston, MA, where he graduated with a BFA in Visual Media Arts and a concentration in directing and writing. Colmcille hopes to continually make work that's not only personal to himself, but to those who work on it and watch it.

Director Statement

This is a story about the bridge between childhood and adulthood called “responsibility”. As teens, we constantly screwed up and made awful mistakes. But once we learned the importance of responsibility, it launched us onto the next chapter of our lives. With our teen protagonist who’s just entered high school, we give audiences a chance to live or relive that experience. In addition, an important aspect for the film is its emphasis on Latinx culture. The project is being told by a fully-diverse team who are all dedicated to telling a fun, energetic, coming-of-age comedy. As a writing/directing duo whose background is comedy-focused, we're ecstatic to have told this story in the same town we went to school, which allowed us to bring the that same anxious & bright culture we encountered, onto the screen.
