It was the eight year old part of me that wanted to tell this story in particular. There was a small wooden puppet in the window of a shoe shop in my hometown and every week I'd walk past to see him sitting there, hammering a nail over and over again.
That puppet felt real to me. I thought he deserved his own story.
Through the creation of this film, I wanted to explore the adult themes of old age, desperation and loneliness, but through the guise of fairytale; where even inanimate objects may have a life of their own, should they wish it enough.
