Awaken the Giants: Sinisteria VR

Sinisteria is a VR experience where visitors are invited to play a game of hide and seek while exploring a social VR world through a story narrative based on Maslow's hierarchy of needs. This project was nominated for the Vancouver UX Awards 2022 in the Immersive Category for outstanding contributions to VR creations.

The Story:

1. Awaken the Giants is a new form of VR experience that captures all the nuances of storytelling within the theme of ‘being’. It lies within a framework of affirmation and incorporates elements of transmedia storytelling.

2. The world is part game, art installation, a little bit ‘theatre’, workshop offerings and global stage all rolled into one to create a new hybrid virtual reality experience.

3. Our VR world which was hand painted in Google Tiltbrush represents a social commentary on the tumultuous times that was the Jan 6 2021 storming of the capital (USA) and stands out as a testament to human resilience, strength and ability to rise above such occasions.

4. Each interaction within the narrative represents an ‘antidote’, a construct in VR space involving exploration and discovery, conversation, memory and authentic sharing that speaks pointedly at the challenges witnessed during the global pandemic.

5. The notion of ‘you are enough’ resonates throughout all spaces secret and public. Wonder and awe activate a sense of gratitude and humility while helping you to create a new personal perspective.
