Director Biography - Magnus Adamsen, Tara Salas

Tara and Magnus first met each other on the set of a feature film, that was shot over the span of two weeks in a house far out in the country in Denmark. Magnus had just finished the script for 'Avalanche' 3 days prior. When Tara read it she instantly decided that she wanted to direct it with Magnus.

They like each others previous work (Tara: 'Intoxication' (2021), Magnus: 'Fortunate Son' (2021)) and they like working together as well.

Director Statement

This project was initiated because I was going through somewhat of a difficult time in my life and didn't know what to make of everything. I decided to write all my feelings down in a document because I knew that I might be able to put those feelings into something meaningful later on. 2 years later, in January 2022, I had a script and no more than 3 days after completing it, I met Tara Salas, who ended up co-directing the film with me.

I have always been incredibly fascinated by the storytelling of a film. The structure of writing a screenplay is always something I have analyzed, admired and experimented with in my own projects as well. As the reader probably knows, there are different models in filmmaking that can be followed and interpreted in all sorts of ways. In this film, the goal was to divide the story into three different acts; that has three different emotions, colors and narrative and dramatic arcs as well as different acting methods.

In my own experience with depression and anxiety, I often find myself thinking an insane amount about why people act the way that they do around me, or why I myself behave the way I do. I also think that the whole situation is so interesting, because you often present yourself in the most inferior way and often look super bashed, physically. I find it mind-boggling how so much can go through the brain of a person who outwardly just looks like someone who has no more than a single thought circulating in their mind, such as: what shall I buy to drink?

I have always wanted to have a film shown at a film festival for reasons unknown to myself. I hope you like our movie.
