Born and raised in the UK, he spent his formative years closely following the broadcasting of Louis Theroux’s journalistic documentaries on BBC. After graduating from the University of Westminster in 2016, Austin set out to find his own style of strange subjects to tackle.
His debut film, Family of God (2017), explores the ways a church in London forms powerful father-figure bonds over its congregation. For months, the crew immersed themselves within the various teachings of the faith, ultimately addressing the way this church could be exploiting its parish with a range of extreme beliefs and influential pastor-figures.
Today, Austin works for the Oscar-winning visual effects company, Wētā FX. Alongside this, he also continues to stay busy as a freelance editor, often cutting shorts and promos for clients all across the world.
