Director Statement

Thinking about what I tried to say creating this movie I understand that I wanted to say too much. I always had an idea that every artwork should have a wide range of meanings so that every person who has a contact with this film, song or painting could understand it his own way depending on his past, background and experience. Talking about movies I found this idea in such pictures as «Stalker», «The Mirror» and «Nostalghia» by Andrei Tarkovsky, «2001: A Space Odyssey» by Stanley Kubrick or «The Tree of Life» by Terrence Malick. Watching these films I realized that you don’t even think about some special sense of what is happening or you may not even understand what is going on, you just feel it and this feeling gives much more significance than in many other movies. After watching such kind of a film you feel yourself inspired, as about me this inspiration was a motive to shoot my own short movie. The most important aim for me was if not to create such kind of a film than at least to find out the instruments which lead to such a result. That is the reason why I started to imagine some kind of a metaphoric and poetic story that is firstly based on symbolism but not on realism, with almost no words told. My life was its basement so I hope that it helped me to tell this story sincere and fare.
It is of course important to say few words about the process of filmmaking. Before this movie I have already had some kind of experience in cinematograph, but this case was anyway the most difficult but the same time the most interesting and useful one. From a moment when I wrote a first line of a script and till I’m writing these words all the process was in my hands and I should not only do a job that I was doing for the first time but also control a work of all the other specialists that have already been the professionals in filmmaking. I will lie if I say that everything was alright all the way and I didn’t do even a mistake. Not of course. Sometimes I thought that I only failed, that there were too much problems, that this movie wouldn’t be finished and I would never try to shoot a movie once again. However, looking back I see that it was the only way for me to understand what is the film industry, how people work there and if I want to go on shooting the movies (spoiler: yes I do!). This movie is already an award for me and what others think of it – hope the festivals will show.
