A town still standing
Nestled behind high mountains and dark forests lies Triberg, the birthplace of the cuckoo clock. For centuries, this cult item has been handcrafted right here, attracting tourists from all over the world. Ever since the boom of the 1980s has faded, the cuckoo clock has gradually lost its appeal and magic. And so has the place, which now resembles a ghost town. Between abandoned restaurants and empty souvenir shops, the residents eagerly hope for the return of tourists.

We, Marvin Meckes and Lukas Fuhrimann, grew up in the canton of Zurich, Switzerland. We met in 2016 while studying film at the Zurich University of the Arts School and have been making films together ever since. Together we have made over five films, mainly documentaries and fictional works.
When we were travelling by car in the Black Forest, we happened to see a sign on the side of the road saying: World's largest cuckoo clock to visit. Not even five minutes later, we drove through the town of Triberg, where there wasn't really much else besides all the cuckoo clock shops. Everything in this town was ticking, only with little sign of human life. This state of the town stuck with us and so we decided to dedicate our graduation film to this town, which has missed the boat in the course of globalisation.
