Day of the Mediterranean by Anna Lindh FoundationLisbon
November 28, 2023
Concert to represent the Mediterranean in Lisbon
Asteria is an emerging musical group performing traditional Mediterranean music.
This ensemble began as a gathering of six women who embarked on a profound exploration of the ancient traditions prevalent in Mediterranean regions. Their approach is deeply rooted in mysticism and ancestral traditions, utilising a combination of songs, rituals, dances, atmospheric soundscapes, and ancient symbols.
The Ensemble consists of five professional musicians and one dancer, living in Portugal and coming from different countries, : Giulia Gallina (keyboard, autoharp, sound effects, voice. Italy), Elisabetta Marcora (voice. Italy), Leonor Palha (violin, voice, sound effects, adufe. Portugal) Greta Wardega (voice, percussions, Poland), Teresa Corrado (concertina, accordion, Italian tambourine, Calabrian lyra, voice. Italy), Sara Paternesi (dance. Italy).
Asteria represents a symbolic sisterhood, embodying an ongoing journey of exploration and mutual support among women. Their harmonious voices, woven together, illuminate the cyclical patterns inherent in life, the changing seasons, and the kaleidoscope of human emotions. Their contemporary perspective on the ancient feminine essence conjures powerful imagery of fearless self-expression, unity, and joyous celebration.
