Asparagus

Shortly before his 18th birthday, Peter, a mildly autist student, has a chance counter with Faye during a routine therapy session. Faye, whose mania has intensified since her dad walked out on her, invites Peter out to a restaurant to overcome his unusual fear of asparagus. Peter, who has never experienced love and sees Faye as a potential love interest, decides to go along as he is trying to break out of his mundane routine and the emptiness of life. In the hours leading up to the dinner, Peter returns home for a quick change of clothes where he informs his mother that he won't be home for dinner. His mother is suspicious of his intentions and follows him to the restaurant where she is as thrilled as she is apprehensive to see Peter out on what she assumes to be a date. After an awkward encounter among the trio and Faye subsequently walking out of the restaurant, Peter's mother finally gives him her blessing and support as he steps out of his comfort zone and tries to find love.
